Hello everyone!!
Today we are reviewing Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco which is the first book in The Kingdom of the Wicked series. It is a YA fantasy / historical fiction book published in October 2020 by JIMMY Patterson Books.
In the book we follow Emilia who she and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe – witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family’s restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin…desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister’s killer and to seek vengeance at any cost-even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden. Then Emilia summons Wrath, one of the Wicked-princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia’s side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women’s murders on the island.
Well, this was a highly anticipated book for me and thankfully it didn't disappoint. I loved the story, the pacing and I really liked the characters. Emilia is not my favourite but Wrath is as well as Nonna. I really liked the relationship between Wrath and Emilia.
The world-building is very interesting but at some points I felt that it needed more explanation. The setting on the other hand is very atmospheric.
The ending was perfect, in my opinion, and it made me wanting to read the next book asap so I can find out what happens and who truly is Wrath. By the way we have a title for the second book and it's Kingdom of the Cursed.
Rating: 4 Stars
See you in the next post and don't forget to keep reading!!!
