Hello everyone!!
Today we are reviewing The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White which is the first book in the Camelot Rising trilogy that published in November 2019 by Delacorte Press.
Book two, The Camelot Betrayal was published in November 2020 and the final book, The Excalibur Curse will be published sometime in 2021.
It is a YA fantasy series reimagining the Arthurian legend, set in the magical world of Camelot. We follow Princess Guinevere who has come to Camelot to wed a stranger to her, the charismatic King Arthur. With magic clawing at the kingdom's borders, the great wizard Merlin conjured a solution, to send in Guinevere to be Arthur's wife and his protector from those who want to see the young king's idyllic city fail. The catch? Guinevere's real name--and her true identity--is a secret. She is a changeling, a girl who has given up everything to protect Camelot.
To keep Arthur safe, Guinevere must navigate a court in which the old--including Arthur's own family--demand things continue as they have been, and the new--those drawn by the dream of Camelot--fight for a better way to live. And always, in the green hearts of forests and the black depths of lakes, magic lies in wait to reclaim the land. Arthur's knights believe they are strong enough to face any threat, but Guinevere knows it will take more than swords to keep Camelot free.
I had high hopes for this one but unfortunately it didn't fulfill them. I still enjoyed reading but not as much as I wanted. However I want to continue with the series.
It was a very slow-paced story and sometimes it got a little boring. I didn't like that for at least half of the book, Guinevere herself doesn’t know what she’s supposed to be doing. Merlin sends her to Camelot to protect Arthur, but he fails to mention what the threat is. I liked the ending of the book because it was something that I couldn't predict and probably the reason I gave the book three stars. Also, it was a little difficult to connect with the characters but I liked the identity of Lancelot.
Rating: 3 Stars
See you in the next post and don't forget to keep reading!!!
