August 2021 wrap up

 Hello everyone!!

August has finished and so typically has summer and now autumn is upon us. Reading-wise August was a really good month as I might have read only 4 books but the majority of them were 5 and 4 star reads.

Without further ado let's see them together.

On These Black Sands (Aisling Sea #1) - Vanessa Rasanen

Books that take place on a ship and especially a pirate ship have become some of my favourites. This one was no exception. I really liked the story and the world building and I loved the characters.

Rating: 4 Stars

My full review will come pretty soon.

Six Crimson Cranes (Six Crimson Cranes #1) - Elizabeth Lim

Elizabeth Lim has become one of my go-to authors. I like her writing style and this book was no exception. I loved her version of the retelling , the world-building and the characters.

Rating: 5 Stars

My full review will come pretty soon

The Tale of the Tailor and the Three Dead Kings - Dan Jones

This is a chilling medieval ghost story, retold by historian Dan Jones. I enjoyed reading it but I didn't k=love it.

Rating: 3 Stars

Release date: October 14th

Leaders: My First Leaders - Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara & Lisbeth Kaiser

I love the picture books that Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara does. They are perfect for little children.
This one is a picture book that introduces the little readers to the incredible life of the world's best-loved leaders.
It is written in simple sentences, which are perfect for the little ones and it offers them inspiring messages.
I love how quirky the illustrations are.

Rating: 5 Stars

A Dance with the Fae Prince (Married to Magic #2) by Elise Kova - A Review

Hello everyone!!

Today we are reviewing A Dance with the Fae Prince by Elise Kova which is the second book in her Married to Magic shared universe.  The book is a YA Fantasy Romance and was released on August 19th by Silver Wing Press.

This is the first time I read anything by Elise Kova and I couldn't be happier.
I loved the story and the characters. The romance between the main characters is slow but beautifully written. Katria comes from an abusive family but she is strong and determined and Damien is the man that you wished he existed in real life.
I also really enjoy the world building and the politics in it and I think I will read the first book in this world to find out more.
By the way, you don't have to read book 1 to enjoy this one. They are standalones just in the same world.

Rating: 5 Stars

About the book
She knew her hand in marriage would be sold. She had no idea a fae prince was the buyer.
Katria swore she'd never fall in love. She's seen what "love" means through the cruelty of her family. So when she's married off to the mysterious Lord Fenwood for a handsome price, all Katria wants is a better life than the one she's leaving. Feelings are off the table.
But her new husband makes not falling in love difficult.
As their attraction begins to grow, so too do the oddities within her new life: strange rules, screams in the night, and attacks by fae that Katria never thought were real. When she witnesses a ritual not meant for human eyes, Katria finds herself spirited away to the land of Midscape.
Surviving the fae wilds as a human is hard enough. Katria must survive as a human who accidently pilfered the magic of ancient kings - magic a bloodthirsty king is ready to kill her for in order to keep his stolen throne - and her new husband is the rightful heir in hiding.
The power to save the fae is in her hands. But who will save her from a love she vowed never to feel?

In 1911 New York City, seventeen-year-old Frances Hallowell spends her days as a seamstress, mourning the mysterious death of her brother months prior. Everything changes when she’s attacked and a man ends up dead at her feet—her scissors in his neck, and she can’t explain how they got there.
Before she can be condemned as a murderess, two cape-wearing nurses arrive to inform her she is deathly ill and ordered to report to Haxahaven Sanitarium. But Frances finds Haxahaven isn’t a sanitarium at all: it’s a school for witches. Within Haxahaven’s glittering walls, Frances finds the sisterhood she craves, but the headmistress warns Frances that magic is dangerous. Frances has no interest in the small, safe magic of her school, and is instead enchanted by Finn, a boy with magic himself who appears in her dreams and tells her he can teach her all she’s been craving to learn, lessons that may bring her closer to discovering what truly happened to her brother.
Frances’s newfound power attracts the attention of the leader of an ancient order who yearns for magical control of Manhattan. And who will stop at nothing to have Frances by his side. Troy has fallen. The Greeks have won their bitter war. They can return home victors, loaded with their spoils: their stolen gold, stolen weapons, stolen women. All they need is a good wind to lift their sails.
But the wind does not come. The gods have been offended - the body of Priam lies desecrated, unburied - and so the victors remain in limbo, camped in the shadow of the city they destroyed, pacing at the edge of an unobliging sea. And, in these empty, restless days, the hierarchies that held them together begin to fray, old feuds resurface and new suspicions fester.
Largely unnoticed by her squabbling captors, Briseis remains in the Greek encampment. She forges alliances where she can - with young, dangerously naïve Amina, with defiant, aged Hecuba, with Calchus, the disgraced priest - and begins to see the path to a kind of revenge. Briseis has survived the Trojan War, but peacetime may turn out to be even more dangerous...

A Torch Against the Night (AEITA #2) by Sabaa Tahir - A Review

Hello everyone!!

Today we are reviewing A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir  which is the second book in The Ember In the Ashes series. It is a YA fantasy book that was published in 2016 by HarperVoyager.

The book continues with Laia and Elias’s stories and picks up with them journeying across the Empire to fulfill Elias’s promise of helping Laia break her brother Darin out of Kauf prison and all of the problems that they face along the way.

I don't know why I haven't picked up this series earlier. The second book in the series was even better than the first one. It was more action packed and full of emotions. I love the characters and their development. We continue to learn more about the world and its fantastical beings and that is amazing.
I also liked the unexpected plot twist and I cannot wait to read the next book.

Rating: 5 Stars

Synopsis of the book:
A Torch Against the Nignt takes readers into the heart of the Empire as Laia and Elias fight their way north to liberate Laia’s brother from the horrors of Kauf Prison. Hunted by Empire soldiers, manipulated by the Commandant, and haunted by their pasts, Laia and Elias must outfox their enemies and confront the treacherousness of their own hearts.

In the city of Serra, Helene Aquilla finds herself bound to the will of the Empire’s twisted new leader, Marcus. When her loyalty is questioned, Helene finds herself taking on a mission to prove herself,a mission that might destroy her, instead.
