Attempting to flee her past, Wendy almost runs over an unconscious boy lying in the middle of the road, and gets pulled into the mystery haunting the town.

Peter, a boy she thought lived only in her stories, claims that if they don't do something, the missing children will meet the same fate as her brothers. In order to find them and rescue the missing kids, Wendy must confront what's waiting for her in the woods.

The Language of Thorns : Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic by Leigh Bardugo - A Mini Review

Hello everyone!!

Today we are reviewing The Language of Thorns : Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic by Leigh Bardugo which is a collection of short stories that takes place in the Grishaverse. It was published in 2017 by Imprint.

This is an atmospheric collection of short stories. They are full with revenge, sacrifice, love  and betrayal. All of them are set in the Grishaverse world and are something like the fairytales of this world but more dark than usual fairytales.
There are six stories and all of them all beautifully illustrated. My favourite was Ayanna and the Thorn Wood and my least favourite was The Soldier Prince.

Rating: 4 Stars

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Travel to a world of dark bargains struck by moonlight, of haunted towns and hungry woods, of talking beasts and gingerbread golems, where a young mermaid's voice can summon deadly storms and where a river might do a lovestruck boy's bidding but only for a terrible price.
Inspired by myth, fairy tale, and folklore.
Perfect for new readers and dedicated fans, these tales will transport you to lands both familiar and strange—to a fully realized world of dangerous magic that millions have visited through the novels of the Grishaverse.
This collection of six stories includes three brand-new tales, all of them lavishly illustrated with art that changes with each turn of the page, culminating in six stunning full-spread illustrations as rich in detail as the stories themselves

The Near Witch by V. E. Schwab - A Review

Hello everyone!!

Today we are reviewing The Near Witch by V. E. Schwab which is a YA fantasy novel originally published in 2011. It was the debut novel of Victoria Schwab and didn't get the recognition it deserved, so in 2019 Titan Books released it again in the world.

In the book we follow Lexi who lives in a small town named Near, where there are stories about The Near Witch.

The Near Witch is only an old story told to frighten children.
If the wind calls at night, you must not listen. The wind is lonely, and always looking for company. There are no strangers in the town of Near.

These are the truths that Lexi has heard all her life. But when an actual stranger, a boy who seems to fade like smoke, appears outside her home on the moor at night, she knows that at least one of these sayings is no longer true. The next night, the children of Near start disappearing from their beds, and the mysterious boy falls under suspicion. As the hunt for the children intensifies, so does Lexi’s need to know about the witch that just might be more than a bedtime story, about the wind that seems to speak through the walls at night, and about the history of this nameless boy.

I loved this book as much as the other works of V. E. Schwab that I have read so far.
First of all, I love the setting of the book, a small town near a moor where nothing ever changes. It feels so atmospheric and mysterious at the same time. The book reads like a fairytale and the story centers around folktales about witches and strange things that begin to happen in the town of Near.
I loved the writing and the characters. Lexi is so caring for her family but also smart, strong and determined to find the truth.

Highly recommend it!

 Hello everyone!!

Well, it's time for this week's new releases post. This time we look at books published in the week of  March 16th. There are a lot of books that are in my most anticipated list, but as I said before this list is of course incomplete as it includes only books that I am interested in and the majority of them are in the Fantasy genre.

Let's start...

Namesake (Fable #2) by Adrienne Young

Trader. Fighter. Survivor.
With the Marigold ship free of her father, Fable and its crew were set to start over. That freedom is short-lived when she becomes a pawn in a notorious thug’s scheme. In order to get to her intended destination she must help him to secure a partnership with Holland, a powerful gem trader who is more than she seems.
As Fable descends deeper into a world of betrayal and deception she learns that her mother was keeping secrets, and those secrets are now putting the people Fable cares about in danger. If Fable is going to save them then she must risk everything, including the boy she loves and the home she has finally found.
Filled with action, emotion, and lyrical writing, New York Times bestselling author Adrienne Young returns with Namesake, the final book in the captivating Fable duology.

Genre: YA Fantasy
Sequel to: Fable
Publisher: Wednesday Books

Delicates (Sheets #2) by Brenna Thummler

Following the events of the bestselling graphic novel, Sheets, Delicates brings Brenna Thummler’s beloved characters, artwork, and charm back to life.
Marjorie Glatt’s life hasn’t been the same ever since she discovered a group of ghosts hiding in her family’s laundromat. Wendell, who died young and now must wander Earth as a ghost with nothing more than a sheet for a body, soon became one of Marjorie’s only friends. But when Marjorie finally gets accepted by the popular kids at school, she begins to worry that if anyone learns about her secret ghost friends, she’ll be labeled as a freak who sees dead people. With Marjorie’s insistence on keeping Wendell’s ghost identity a secret from her new friends, Wendell begins to feel even more invisible than he already is.
Eliza Duncan feels invisible too. She’s an avid photographer, and her zealous interest in finding and photographing ghosts gets her labeled as “different” by all the other kids in school. Constantly feeling on the outside, Eliza begins to feel like a ghost herself. Marjorie must soon come to terms with the price she pays to be accepted by the popular kids. Is it worth losing her friend, Wendell? Is she partially to blame for the bullying Eliza endures?
Delicates tells a powerful story about what it means to fit in, and those left on the outside. It shows what it’s like to feel invisible, and the importance of feeling seen. Above all, it is a story of asking for help when all seems dark, and bringing help and light to those who need it most.

Genre: Graphic Novel
Sequel to : Sheets
Publisher: Lion Forge/Caracal

The Dragon in the Library (Kit the Wizard #1) by Louie Stowell, Davide Ortu (illustrator)

In a fast-paced and funny adventure, Kit must use the magic of books to save the library—and its resident dragon—from a power-hungry tycoon.
Kit Spencer can’t stand reading. She’d rather be outside playing and getting muddy than stuck inside with a book. But when her best friends, Josh and Alita, drag her to the local library, Kit makes an incredible discovery: she’s a wizard—and books are the key to her abilities. Unfortunately, a greedy businessman wants to tear down the beloved library, destroying all its magic. To make matters worse, there’s a sleeping dragon hidden there, and if she’s awakened, her wild power will wreak havoc. With the help of a friendly dragon-dog hybrid named Dogon, Kit and her companions will have to find a way to save the dragon in the library—and maybe the world! A humorous romp full of library enchantment, with a diverse cast of characters and dynamic illustrations.

A Queen of Gilded Horns (A River of Royal Blood #2) by Amanda Joy

In this sequel to A River of Royal Blood, Eva and Isa must find a way to work together if they want to save their queendom in the thrilling conclusion to this royal fantasy duology.
Now on the run, Eva is desperate for answers about her transformation and her true heritage. Along with Aketo, a small contingent of guards, and the sister she could not kill, Eva flees Ternain in hopes of finding friends and allies to the north--not to mention Baccha--to help her decide what to do next. Princess Isa is a difficult, unremorseful captive, and Eva knows better than to trust her sister, but she wants to. Despite their history, Eva is convinced that to survive the growing unrest in the queendom, she and her sister must make peace. Since the Entwining ceremony, Eva's and Isa's lives have been bonded, and each can only die by the other's hand. This perhaps provides an opening for a truce and a more hopeful future for both the sisters and the queendom, if only Isa would see reason and give up the battle for the throne.
With the two princesses on the run, the Queendom of Myre is on the brink of a revolution. And without Baccha to guide and train her magick, Eva must find a way not only to survive her own metamorphosis, but to unite all the people of Myre, including her sister, by finally taking the Ivory Throne.

Ruin and Rising (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy #3) by Leigh Bardugo - A Review

Hello everyone!!

Today we are reviewing Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo, the third and final book in the Shadow and Bone trilogy, a YA fantasy book published in 2014 by Henry Holt and Company.

Well, The Darkling is back!

I enjoyed this one more than book two but I wasn't ready and I would have preferred a different ending.
To be honest the first part of the book was a little boring but then it picked up and was full of action.
I understand that the ending had to be that way because it is fair but...

Leigh Bardugo created a wonderful and dark world with characters that felt real, even the villain of the story.

Rating: 4 Stars

Synopsis from Goodreads:
The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.
Now the nation's fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.
Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.
Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova's amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling's secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.

The Curse And The Prince by Day Leitao - Book Tour

 Hello everyone!!

Together with Raven's Bookish Network we present you The Curse And The Prince by Day Leitao, the addicting continuation of the Kingdom of Curses and Shadows series! The book was published on January 14th, 2021 by Sparkly Wave.

About the book:

A troubled prince.
A deadly curse.
A mysterious cup.
And the power to save or doom the kingdom.

Of course things didn’t go as planned at the Royal Games. When do things go as planned?
Now Zora is on the run and has to join a disgraced prince in order to retrieve a magical artifact that might undo her valley’s curse. For the first time in her life, she has real hope for her people. The problem is, for the second time in her life, she’s falling for someone she shouldn’t. Finding a hidden object is hard enough on its own, she could do without the heart palpitations and lack of air.
But the real trouble is that there’s more than one curse in the kingdom. And not enough objects or time to get rid of them all.

Here is a small excerpt from the book:

Zora shivered at the way he mentioned the princess’ lies. He would probably hate her too if she didn’t tell him the truth soon. Well, he would probably hate her regardless, which at least would make it easier to avoid him. But she tried to say something to console him. “Well, people are irrational when they are guided by their hearts, so…”

“I wasn’t in love. I thought I was, but I wasn’t. And you’re right that it only makes it worse.”

“Then it was not the heart. Another body part. Still irrational.”

The first book in the series is The Cup and the Prince and was published in October 2020.

Synopsis of the book:

One prince wants her out.
Another wants her as a pawn.
Someone wants her dead.
Zora wants to win the cup and tell them all to screw themselves.
Yes, 17-year-old Zora cheated her way into the Royal Games, but it was for a very good reason. Her ex-boyfriend thought she couldn't attain glory on her own. Just because she was a girl. And he was the real cheater. So she took his place.
Now she's competing for the legendary Blood Cup, representing the Dark Valley. It's her chance to prove her worth and bring glory for her people. If she wins, of course.
But winning is far from easy. The younger prince thinks she's a fragile damsel who doesn't belong in the competition. Determined to eliminate her at all costs, he's stacking the challenges against her. Zora hates him, hates him, hates him, and will do anything to prove him wrong.
The older prince is helping her, but the cost is getting Zora entangled in dangerous flirting games. Flirting, the last thing she wanted.
And then there's someone trying to kill her.

The Bone Maker by Sarah Beth Durst

From award-winning author Sarah Beth Durst, a standalone epic fantasy set in a brand-new world of towering mountains and sparkling cities, in which a band of aging warriors have a second chance to defeat dark magic and avenge a haunting loss.
Twenty-five years ago, five heroes risked their lives to defeat the bone maker Eklor—a corrupt magician who created an inhuman army using animal bones. But victory came at a tragic price. Only four of the heroes survived.
Since then, Kreya, the group’s leader, has exiled herself to a remote tower and devoted herself to one purpose: resurrecting her dead husband. But such a task requires both a cache of human bones and a sacrifice—for each day he lives, she will live one less.
She’d rather live one year with her husband than a hundred without him, but using human bones for magic is illegal in Vos. The dead are burned—as are any bone workers who violate the law. Yet Kreya knows where she can find the bones she needs: the battlefield where her husband and countless others lost their lives.
But defying the laws of the land exposes a terrible possibility. Maybe the dead don’t rest in peace after all.
Five warriors—one broken, one gone soft, one pursuing a simple life, one stuck in the past, and one who should be dead. Their story should have been finished. But evil doesn’t stop just because someone once said, “the end.”
