Cozy / Comfort Fantasy Reads for the Holidays (Blogmas 2023 - Day 3)

 Hello everyone!!

December is the most festive month of the year and it is usually a cold month (that is if you live in the North hemisphere). December has the perfect conditions to snuggle up in a fluffy blanket with a hot drink and a book. At least that is my best scenario.

We all have different favourite genres and books that we like to snuggle up with. Fantasy books and especially cozy fantasy books are the main ingredient for my perfect cozy afternoon /  evening with a book.

Below I have for you some recommendations for cozy fantasy books for the holiday season. It is not a very surprising collection of books but are some of my favourites to read.

Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree

This one is a prequel to the famous Legends & Lattes and it takes place in the same world s but 20 years before and it is a wholesome  cozy fantasy with many sweet and funny moments and of course there was also some action & magic involved. It has a diverse cast of characters, who are really lovable and have a really good character development throughout the book.

We follow Viv, a young, battle-hungry orc that an injury throws her off her chosen path. Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk. She may find that what we need isn't always what we seek.

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree

This is one of the books that started the trend of the whole cozy fantasy books.

High fantasy, low stakes – with a double-shot of coffee.

After decades of adventuring, Viv the orc barbarian is finally hanging up her sword for good. Now she sets her sights on a new dream – for she plans to open the first coffee shop in the city of Thune. Even though no one there knows what coffee actually is.

If Viv wants to put the past behind her, she can’t go it alone. And help might arrive from unexpected quarters. Yet old rivals and new stand in the way of success. And Thune’s shady underbelly could make it all too easy for Viv to take up the blade once more.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold collection by Toshikazu Kawaguchi (Geoffrey Trousselot - Translator)

This is the perfect comfort read. It is sweet, emotional and heartwarming all in one.

What would you change if you could go back in time?

In a small back alley in Tokyo, there is a café which has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. But this coffee shop offers its customers a unique experience: the chance to travel back in time.

In Before the Coffee Gets Cold, we meet four visitors, each of whom is hoping to make use of the café’s time-travelling offer.

The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien

This is a fantasy book that belongs to the classics and I believe that we are all familiar with the story, even if you haven't read the books and only watched the movies.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien

This another timeless classic. It is the introduction to the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, the wizard Gandalf, Gollum, and the spectacular world of Middle-earth. It recounts the adventures of a reluctant hero, a powerful and dangerous ring, and the cruel dragon Smaug the Magnificent.

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by JK Rowling

The list wouldn't be complete without mentioning the Harry Potter books, especially the first book in the series, where the magic begins.

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

This is another classic childhood book that gives you all the warm feelings and the first book The Lion, the witch and the Wardrobe is perfect for the cold weather.

Epic battles between good and evil, fantastic creatures, betrayals, heroic deeds, and friendships won and lost all come together in this unforgettable world, which has been enchanting readers of all ages for over sixty years.

See you in the next post and don't forget to keep reading!!!
