Everything, everything by Nicola Yoon - A Review

Σήμερα θα μιλήσουμε για το βιβλίο Everything, everything της Nicola Yoon , το οποίο είναι ένα young adult, romance, contemporary βιβλίο. Είναι δηλδή ένα είδος που δε συνηθίζω να διαβάζω, αλλά στο συγκεκριμένο επειδή είχα ακούσει πολλά καλά έδωσα μια ευκαιρία και το διάβασα.

Ευτυχώς δε με διέψευσε. Η ιστορία με κρατούσε πάντα σε ενδιαφέρον και δεν το άφηνα από τα χεέρια μου καθώς ήθελα να δω πως θα εξελιχθεί η πλοκή και να μάθω περισσότερα για τους δυο πρωταγωνιστές, Madeline και Olly.
Είναι μια όμορφη ιστορία, καλογραμμένη και ιδιαίτερη. Μου άρεσε ο τρόπος που εξελίχθηκε η ιστορία και το πως διαμορφώθηκαν οι χαρακτήρες κατά την πορεία της. Η συγγραφέας περιγράφει με πολύ ωραίο τρόπο τα συναισθήματα του πρώτου εφηβικού έρωτα, του πρώτου φιλιού και του πως διαμορφώνεται και αλλάζει η ζωή σου από αυτά.

Οι κριτικές που είχα διαβάσει έλεγαν ότι πρόκειται για ένα μυθιστόρημα που αποδεικνύει πόσο συναρπαστικό μπορεί να είναι όταν βγαίνουμε από το καβούκι μας και κάνουμε πράγματα τρελά για την αγάπη. 

Το βιβλίο περιέχει και ορισμένες  εικονογραφημένες σελίδες από το σύζυγο της συγγραφέως, David Yoon, που συμπληρώνουν την ιστορία και δίνουν μια άλλη διάσταση στο νόημα της ιστορίας.

Πάσχω από μια σπάνια αρρώστια. Είμαι αλλεργική στον κόσμο. Δε βγαίνω από το σπίτι μου, έχω να βγω δεκαεπτά χρόνια. Τα μοναδικά άτομα που βλέπω είναι η μαμά μου και η νοσοκόμα μου, η Κάρλα. Μια μέρα ένα φορτηγό με έπιπλα σταματάει στο διπλανό σπίτι. Κοιτάζω έξω από το παράθυρό μου και τον βλέπω. Για παράδειγμα, είναι σίγουρο ότι θα ερωτευτώ τον Όλι. Και είναι σχεδόν σίγουρο ότι αυτό θα είναι καταστροφικό.

Έχει επίσης μεταφερθεί και στον κινηματογράφο με επιτυχία.

I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

Today we are talking about a non-fiction book about books. It's full title is For the Love of Books: Stories of Literary Lives, Banned Books, Author Feuds, Extraordinary Characters, and More, is written by Graham Tarrant and comes out today (June 18th) by Skyhorse Publishing.

According to its synopsis is a  light-hearted book about books and the people who write them for all lovers of literature. I love reading books like this, books that talk about books, authors and literature in general. This book is all these and even more and I really enjoyed it. It's full of bookish facts and I learned many things that I didn't know and also got some great book recommendations.

May 2019 wrap up

It is time again for another monthly wrap up with the books that I read in May. 

This month I decided / challenged myself to read only ebooks because my ebooks TBR is getting bigger and bigger every day and I also had some ARCs to get through.

So here we are today with the books I managed to read.

Saga Vol. 5 & 6 - Brian K. Vaughan & Fiona Staples

I read two more volumes of Saga and I think that as the story progresses I liked it even more and I want to know what will happen next.

Ever Alice  - H. J. Ramsay

This is as you can imagine, a retelling of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland but set when Alice is 15 years old and she visits again Wonderland but this time with a purpose. 

It feels like a sequel of the original and I really liked it.

This book comes out on August 1st by Red Rogue Press and I was sent a eARC from Netgalley for review.

Killers of the Flower Moon - David Grann

Before reading this book I haven't heard about the Osage Murders in America. This book gave me the opportunity to learn about it. It is well written and well researched by the author.

Through the Water Curtain & other Tales from around the world - Cornelia Funke

I really liked this collection of fairy tales from around the world. It is difficult to pick a favorite among them.

Winnie - the - Pooh: Eeyore Loses a Tail - A. A Milne

Eeyore is my favorite from the Pooh stories and this one was beautiful and very sweet.

Shadow of the Fox  - Julie Kagawa

I started this book a few months ago and I wasn't in the mood for it. This month I picked it up again and I really liked it.
The story-line and the world-building is very well done and I cannot wait for the next one to come out.

Goldeneye - John Gardner

I enjoyed reading this one and because I have already seen the film (the book is a novelization of the film) I could play the scenes in my mind while reading it.









So here we are at the end of my wrap up for another month. This month I wanted to read only ebooks and ARCs and I managed to do it (I have only one ARC left).
The next months would be very different & exciting for me so I don't know how my reading will go. We will see...
