MY REVIEW

I really enjoyed reading Beneath Black Sails, it was a great reading experience. It is a pirate fantasy book so it is full of adventure and it is also fast paced and a page turner. The romance in it is perfect, It has the enemies to lovers trope that is my favourite.
I also found the characters really interesting and well written. I loved Vice who is a sassy pirate and she is at the same time strong and sensitive. I also liked the banter between her and Knigh.

All in all I highly recommend this book and especially if you like pirate adventures. I personally will definitely continue with the series.

Book Synopsis

Pirate vs pirate hunter. To lose is death, but winning just might be worse.

With weather magic on her side, Lady Vice is the bane of the high seas, but she isn’t captain of her own ship. Yet. If she can persuade her captain to give her a command, she’ll be in charge of her own fate at last.
To pay off his family’s debts, Knigh Blackwood hunts pirates for the Royal Navy. And he’s damn good at it. When the bounty on Lady Vice grows, he’s determined to make her face justice, even if that means using unorthodox methods.
Forced to work together, neither can deny their mutual attraction. As they face battles at sea and schemes amongst their crew, they discover hints about a long-lost treasure that could be the answer to both their problems.
But treasure isn’t the only thing buried. Secrets best-forgotten lie in wait that could blast the map art. And the closer Vice and Knigh grow, the greater the threat – to her freedom and to his family. Because for one to succeed, the other must fail.
If you love cunning heroes, feisty heroines, and enemies to lovers romance, you’ll love this new adult fantasy series that’s perfect for fans of Sarah J Maas and Miranda Honfleur.
Read Beneath Black Sails today to escape on rum-drenched adventures in a world where flags can lie, X marks the spot, and loyalties shift more than sand.

The Last Shadow Warrior by Sam Subity - A Review & Book Tour

Hello everyone!!

Today I am really excited to participate in the book tour for The Last Shadow Warrior by Sam Subity , that is organized by TBR and Beyond Tours

Disclaimer: I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

The Last Shadow Warrior is a middle grade fantasy book that was published on May 4th 2021 by Scholastic Press.

My Review

This book was really good. It is a middle grade fantasy book that combines Norse Mythology in it which makes it even better.
I enjoyed the setting of the book and the story. It is a great adventure with many humorous scenes. It is also fast-paced. Abby is a really good character. She is smart and decisive and I loved the friendship dynamics of the three protagonists.
If you like Rick Riordan books I believe you will like this one too.

Rating: 4 Stars

Synopsis of the book

Content Warnings: Main characters’s mother has died four years earlier and her father is critically injured and hospitalized for most of the book.

Twelve-year-old Abby Beckett is proud to come from a long line of elite Viking warriors known as the Aesir. She’s spent her entire life training to hunt the horrific creatures known as Grendels – the ancient foe of the Aesir – just like her mother did before she died. But there’s just one, small problem: No one has seen a Grendel in centuries, and the Viking Council wants to disband the Aesir . . . forever.
When her father is injured in an attack that leaves him in a coma, Abby is forced to take refuge at Vale Hall, a mysterious school in Minnesota where nothing is quite as it seems. She soon discovers the tables have turned and a Grendel is hunting her, but when she tries to alert the Viking Council, they accuse her of making up stories for attention . . . just like her mother did.
Desperate to protect her father and clear her mother’s name, Abby goes on a dangerous quest to discover the truth–a journey that brings her face-to-face with some unlikely foes, including a Ping-Pong-playing sea monster with a wicked backhand, and a dark Valkyrie with a fondness for bingo. Abby quickly realizes that someone at the school is trying to stop her progress and destroy the Aesir for good. And only she can unravel the sinister plot before it’s too late.

About the Author:

Sam Subity loves writing stories that explore the magic and wonder of being a kid and is thrilled to share his writing with readers everywhere—both the young in age and the young at heart.
When he’s not writing, you might find him running the trails of northern California where the endless, winding miles past fog and ocean inspire stories of adventure and mystery.
Or he might be mowing his lawn. Because that’s what adults sometimes have to do.
But in either case, Sam Subity is very likely imagining himself fighting mythical creatures or at the prow of a dragon ship feeling the wind and sea spray on his face alongside his own Viking queen and their two Vikelets. His greatest hope is that in reading his books, you too may be transported to another place where, for a little while, you can exchange the ordinary for the extraordinary.

Charting Stars (The Nine Reals Tales #1) by Micheline Ryckman - A Review

Hello everyone!!

Today we are reviewing Charting Stars the 1st book in The Nine Realms Tales by Micheline Ryckman that will be published today.

Disclaimer: I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

This book was another great read from Micheline Ryckman aka @whimsicalillustration . I have also read her previous books and I love her writing style.

Charting Stars is a portal fantasy where our main character is transported for unknown reasons (yet) from our modern world to a magic realm. It is an amazing adventure that I really enjoyed reading and it's also a page turner with great main and side characters. Talia is one of my favourites, she is so sweet but also brave even if she doesn't always believe it.  I loved QB and I am sure you will too. The group dynamics between the characters is amazing.  I really liked that  we get to see the story from two POVs, Talia's and Jarrett's.
I cannot wait to continue with their adventures and learn more about The Nine Realms.

Rating: 4 Stars

Book Synopsis
Talia Benson would consider herself fairly ordinary. Anyone would. Diligent student, only child to a single mother, protector of three cats—nothing crazy has ever happened to her. And Talia wants it to stay that way: stable. Her knack for making friends, along with her obsession with the stars and her love for skirt pockets, coffee, and art, is more than enough to keep Talia happy for the rest of her days—that is, until a single evening in front of a blank canvas becomes the adventure she never dreamed she wanted.
Now, Talia finds herself lost in a world completely unlike her own, a land where monsters roam and magic thrives, where wars are born then die at the wave of a hand, and where strange entities decide the fate of those who live among the Nine Realms. The guardians of these foreign lands have seen a great shift in the heavens. Something has changed, a prophecy has been spoken—a darkness is coming. But maybe, just maybe, an ordinary girl thrown between worlds could be the key to saving it all.
Charting Stars is the first book in a spirited, heartfelt young adult fantasy series by Micheline Ryckman that will appeal to the minds of those who’ve always felt, well, ordinary. Talia’s adventures prove that even an average everyday girl can have skills enough to be a hero. And she’s joined on her journey by a lovable cast of characters—some human, some furry, some covered in ivy vines—who will steal your heart away.

See you in the next post and don't forget to keep reading!!!

Stolen Goblin Bride (Stolen Brides of the Fae #1) by Emma Hamm - A Review

 Hello everyone!!

Today we are reviewing Stolen Goblin Bride by Emma Hamm which is the first book in the Stolen Brides of the Fae collection. The book is a YA fantasy romance novella and can be read as a standalone. It was published on May 7th 2021.

The whole collection is based on the trope of stolen brides and arranged marriages that I find really interesting. The rest of the books will be released one every week. Find out more about the collection at https://www.stolenbrides.com/ .

I read Stolen Goblin Bride almost in one sitting and I really liked it. It was a fast read and I liked the writing style and the world that was set in. It was a sweet story and I enjoyed the characters. Esther is a great female character that knows what she wants and doesn't hesitate to get it.

Rating: 4 Stars

Synopsis of the book

When a mortal girl steals a necklace from a Goblin, there will be a price to pay...

Esther knows the rules. Don't talk to the goblins. Don't look at the goblins. Above all else, don't buy or trade with the goblins.
Then, one day before market, she sees a young rat faced boy selling a necklace that looks eerily like her mother's, what's a young girl to do? Of course she tries to buy it, but he won't sell it to her. So she steals it because it's her mother's necklace.
Lux knows the rules. He's a jeweler and he can sell his wares to those who want to faithfully buy them. Something doesn't feel right about selling this particular piece to the beautiful young woman who immediately steals his heart. So he doesn't.
But when he realizes the mortal girl stole from him, he's forced to enact magic that can't be unwritten. Stealing from a goblin always has a price.

 Hello everyone!!

Well, it's time for this week's new releases post. This time we look at books published in the week of May 18th. Madeline Moore does. Books & Moore, the musty bookstore her family has owned for generations, is where she feels most herself. Nothing is going to stop her from coming back after college to take over the store from her beloved aunt.
Nothing, that is—until a chain bookstore called Prologue opens across the street and threatens to shut them down.
Madeline sets out to demolish the competition, but Jasper, the guy who works over at Prologue, seems intent on ruining her life. Not only is he taking her customers, he has the unbelievable audacity to be… extremely cute.
But that doesn’t matter. Jasper is the enemy and he will be destroyed. After all—all’s fair in love and (book) wars.

Despite this, Domek find solace in his moments spent in the company of his friend, the clever and beautiful Lady Ora Fischerová-- a widow with secrets of her own.
When Domek finds himself stalked by the spirit of the White Lady - a ghost who haunts the baroque halls of Prague castle - he stumbles across the sentient essence of a will-o'-the-wisp, a mischievous spirit known to lead lost travellers to their death, but who, once captured, are bound to serve the desires of their owners.
After discovering a conspiracy amongst the pijavice that could see them unleash terror on the daylight world, Domek finds himself in a race against those who aim to twist alchemical science for their own dangerous gain.

A Master of Djinn (Dead Djinn Universe #1) by P. Djèlí Clark - A Review

Hello everyone!!

Today we are reviewing A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark, the first book in the Dead Djinn Universe which published on May 11th by Tordotcom.

Disclaimer: I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of this book by Netgalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

A Master of Djinn is an adult fantasy book with historical and steampunk elements in it. We are in an alternate Cairo universe that is fascinating.
The year is 1912 and we follow  Fatma el-Sha’arawi who is the youngest woman working for the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments and Supernatural Entities, and  she is certainly not a rookie, especially after preventing the destruction of the universe last summer.
So when someone murders a secret brotherhood dedicated to one of the most famous men in history, al-Jahiz, Agent Fatma is called onto the case. Al-Jahiz transformed the world 50 years ago when he opened up the veil between the magical and mundane realms, before vanishing into the unknown. This murderer claims to be al-Jahiz, returned to condemn the modern age for its social oppressions. His dangerous magical abilities instigate unrest in the streets of Cairo that threaten to spill over onto the global stage.
Alongside her Ministry colleagues and her clever girlfriend Siti, Agent Fatma must unravel the mystery behind this imposter to restore peace to the city - or face the possibility he could be exactly who he seems.

I really enjoyed reading this book. At the beginning it was a little slow paced for me. That was mostly because the author introduced us to the world and its elements. As the story went on it became a real page turner and I was continuously trying to guess the suspect. The best part for me was the worldbuilding. I haven't read any of the novellas that take place in this world but that didn't stop me from loving it.
I also loved the characters. Fatma and Hadia are a great duo and I want to know more about Siti. They are great women characters in the book and they are smart and independent.

The ending was really satisfying and it wrap up everything really well.

Finally I really liked the diversity in the book and the writing style of the author. I will definitely read more of his work.

Incognito (Keystone #2) by Katie Delahanty - A Review

Hello everyone!!

Today we are reviewing Incognito by Katie Delahanty which was released last week (May 3rd) by Entangled Teen. It is the sequel to Keystone and it is a YA science fiction / dystopian book taking place in the future where technology is really advanced and threatens humanity.

Disclaimer: I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of this book from Netgalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Last year I read Keystone and really liked. You can read my full review here.

I liked Incognito more than the first one. It was also full of plot twists and secrets but the twist at the end made me love it even more. I was suspecting something but I wasn't expecting that. The heist in this one was more complex and I liked how the characters reacted to it.
I loved the tension and the chemistry between Elisha and Garrett as well as the group and friendship dynamics of all the characters.

All in all, this book is a great adventure and page turner.
I hope book 3 comes out soon.

Rating: 5 Stars

Synopsis of the book
In the virtual utopia of the Simulation, everyone will live peacefully and without fear or needs—at least that’s how they’re selling it. But the government plans to use this program to take control of the entire human race. Elisha Dewitt has just been given her first mission to help prevent this, and she’s ready to prove she can go incognito just as well as any other master thief.

Breaking and entering? No sweat. She’s done worse. Stealing a cassette tape from the museum vaults will be easy—in, out, done—until he shows up...and everything gets way more complicated. Garrett Alexander just has that effect.

Nothing is as it seems, and a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse begins with Garrett, her rival and match in every way. Not knowing who she can trust, Elisha decides it’s up to her to rescue everyone—even Garrett—before the world as she knows it comes to a brutal end.

Sometimes a magic portal can be found in ordinary things. That’s exactly what Eleanor Mason discovers when she receives a tattered book of stories from her father.

After her first adventure in the Nightshade Forest, Eleanor quickly jumps through the portal again, only to find herself standing in a field of golden wheat. When a nervous rabbit asks her to save the city from an evil imp with a magic spinning wheel, Eleanor knows she must join him on an epic adventure to solve a riddle, destroy the wheel, and save the townspeople—all before the sun rises on the city.

Can Eleanor rely on the prophecy of an ancient fairy statue to save the day, or will she run out of time and watch as her friends slowly turn to gold?

My review

The second book of Eleanor Mason's Literary Adventures was as enjoyable as the first one. It is a magical book that reads like a fairytale.
In this one we follow Eleanor in a new adventure from her book where she tries to save another magical place.
I really like the author's writing and ow at the end of the book she left the door open for more stories as well as for more information about Eleanor's magical fairytale book.

2021 New Releases Weekly - May 4th

 Hello everyone!!

Well, it's time for this week's new releases post. This time we look at books published in the week of May 4th. There are a lot of books that are in my most anticipated list, but as I said before this list is of course incomplete as it includes only books that I am interested in and the majority of them are in the Fantasy genre.

Let's start with a book that I am currently reading, thanks to the publisher that send an eARC my way and it released yesterday May 3rd.

Incognito by Katie Delahanty

In the virtual utopia of the Simulation, everyone will live peacefully and without fear or needs—at least that’s how they’re selling it. Now on to the books that are published today.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission--and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish.
Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.
All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.
His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, he realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Alone on this tiny ship that's been cobbled together by every government and space agency on the planet and hurled into the depths of space, it's up to him to conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.
And thanks to an unexpected ally, he just might have a chance.
Part scientific mystery, part dazzling interstellar journey, Project Hail Mary is a tale of discovery, speculation, and survival to rival The Martian--while taking us to places it never dreamed of going.

The Most Beautiful Girl in Cuba by Chanel Cleeton

At the end of the nineteenth century, three revolutionary women fight for freedom in New York Times bestselling author Chanel Cleeton’s captivating new novel inspired by real-life events and the true story of a legendary Cuban woman–Evangelina Cisneros–who changed the course of history.
A feud rages in Gilded Age New York City between newspaper tycoons William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer. When Grace Harrington lands a job at Hearst’s newspaper in 1896, she’s caught in a cutthroat world where one scoop can make or break your career, but it’s a story emerging from Cuba that changes her life.
Unjustly imprisoned in a notorious Havana women’s jail, eighteen-year-old Evangelina Cisneros dreams of a Cuba free from Spanish oppression. When Hearst learns of her plight and splashes her image on the front page of his paper, proclaiming her, “The Most Beautiful Girl in Cuba,” she becomes a rallying cry for American intervention in the battle for Cuban independence.
With the help of Marina Perez, a courier secretly working for the Cuban revolutionaries in Havana, Grace and Hearst’s staff attempt to free Evangelina. But when Cuban civilians are forced into reconcentration camps and the explosion of the USS Maine propels the United States and Spain toward war, the three women must risk everything in their fight for freedom.
