Today we are reviewing These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong which is the first book in a YA fantasy series and was published in November 2020 by Hodder & Stoughton.
The second book Our Violent Ends comes out in November 2021 and the cover is stunning.
These Violent Delights is a heart-stopping imaginative Romeo and Juliet retelling set in 1920s Shanghai with rival gangs and a monster in the depths of the Huangpu River.
First of all my favourite trope is in the book: Enemies to Lovers. Despite that I also liked the plot and the writing of the author. She had done a very good research and it felt as if you were in the 1920s Shanghai yourself.
I enjoyed the main characters as well as the side characters. Roma is my favourite and I want to see him in the sequel to be more badass.
I need the sequel asap because that ending killed me...
